A Blog: Personal Stories on the Impact of Jewish Education
SSLI community commemorates Yom HaShoah

This week, as we prepared for Yom HaShoah veHaGevurah, each student received a Shem v’Ner Memorial/Yizkor candle to bring home and light with their families. On April 14, students in grades K-12 engaged in a variety of programming that honored the memory of the Holocaust with care and intention.
The community dressed in black and white, as is our tradition, and even heard the personal story of survivor Gilda Zirinsky during a special ceremony. Children in each grade level participated in developmentally-appropriate experiences that reflected the solemn nature of the day.
At Schechter, even our youngest learners are guided with sensitivity, helping them understand the importance of memory, identity, and responsibility. These moments shape thoughtful and compassionate individuals who carry our history forward.
