Celebrating Chesed and Tikkun Olam this Thanksgiving Season

In the spirit of Thanksgiving, members of our community devoted themselves to helping families in need all across Long Island. Over the course of six hours, Sabrina (’28), Oliver (’32), and Gabriella (’35) Monasabien collected an extraordinary 98 frozen turkeys and nearly 3,000 pounds of food to provide people facing food insecurity with the ingredients for a proper Thanksgiving.
We were so happy to see the Monasabien family in action, working together with energy, enthusiasm, and purpose. Their efforts not only supported the broader community, but also reflected the heart of a Schechter education. Through this day of donation, Sabrina, Oliver, and Gabriella embodied the Schechter value of Gemilut Chasadim (acts of loving kindness). They showed warmth to the world around them, generosity to those who needed it most, and engaged in a beautiful act of Tikkun Olam (healing the world).
Their act of service reminds us that giving is not limited to grand gestures. Through small intentional actions, we can make a large impact on our community.
The Monasabien family was incredibly proud of what they accomplished, and we are too! Their leadership and generosity are an inspiration to our entire Schechter community as we enter this season of giving. May their example motivate our entire SSLI community to find ways, both big and small, to make a positive impact on the world around us.
